Dear Brothers and Sisters,
On behalf of the local 786 Executive Board, we would like to thank you for your overwhelming support of the officers and Local 786 at the hearing conducted this past Saturday. Over 500 members attended the meeting and over 900 members signed the petition supporting Local 786. Your support was the best evidence we had and was the most important.
As many of you heard, there is zero evidence of wrong doing on the part of the officers of this local. This is confirmed in a letter to Vice President Anthony Pinelli. The International Union’s attorney stated “ Charges are not being brought against the Local or particular officers or members of Local 786’s Executive Board. The General President, pursuant to the authority vested in him by Article VI, Section 5 of the International Constitution, has appointed a panel to consider whether a trusteeship should be imposed on Local 786.” As you can see, they had no evidence.
Local 786 has provided it’s members with the highest wages in the industry, the most comprehensive medical, dental, vision, prescription and life insurance program in the Teamsters. We are also the only Teamsters local to provide winter coverage for our members and their families. We also provide the largest pension benefits and have the only Pension fund that is fully funded, so that you know your retirement income is safe.
As Michael Yauger testified, this attack on Local 786 is retaliation for the officers refusing to merge with Local 731 and for the Executive Board filing charges against Terry Hancock. This Executive Board will not be intimidated by other Teamster Unions or management. We will continue to stand for and with our members.
With your support we will continue to negotiate the highest wages and benefits to protect you and your family now and in the future.
Thank you again for your support. Together we will keep Teamsters Local 786 strong.
